March Adventures

We went to a concert on Women's Day that was advertised all over the city with a photo of a man in traditional clothes playing a traditional instrument. Jonah and I went expecting a fully traditional concert, but IT WASN'T! It was all pop! And the entire audience was middle- and older-aged women! And everything, including the 40 minute comedy sketch, was in KYrgyz, so we couldn't understand anything!

This is my boss at the Academy. Jonah and I call him Rafiki, because his real name is impossible to pronounce and he reminds us of that wise monkey from The Lion King. For the Women's Day snack celebration with the teachers, we stood and sand a song and toasted me and America.

On beautiful days, people come to the parks and sel cotton candy, balloons, toys, and other kid things. Even when there is only one kid, the salesmen flock to it.

Jonah brought his guitar with him to my classes during the day to perform for my students, and this is his wandering in a park with it over his shoulder. He is so dreamy!

A couple Sundays ago we went to the Russian Orthodox church. The place was surrounded by and filled old women with their heads covered, praying to the endless icons of saints and Christ on the walls.
